Kyveli Anats and Anna Giannakopoulou
A recent project by the Athens based practice of 2 Architects, headed by Kyveli Anats and Anna Giannakopoulou, is the renovation of a generous apartment in Central Athens. The 300 sqm space is situated in a quintessential 1950s building designed by Konstantinos Kapsabeli.
Throughout the project the designers worked closely with the client whose knowledge, excellent taste and passion for contemporary design provided guidelines for the redesign of the interior. The preservation of the classic lines of the original apartment formed the basis on which decisions were taken, always keeping in mind the client’s desire to create an urban residence where their physical and mental well being was of the utmost importance.
The entire interior was gutted, leaving a shell into which the essential high tech systems were installed in the most subtle way thus preserving the mid 20th century ambience in respect for the original space.
The original fireplace of white Pendelis marble was preserved and converted to Natural gas. In the study, a bookshelf of metal and wood was designed to sit alongside a stunning desk by MDF Italia.
The dressing room contains cupboards created of metal plates and transparencies to display the most classic features of the shell of the space. Comfortable sofas were placed in the two living rooms ensuring relaxation and comfort. The result is a marriage of aesthetics and features of the 1950s with present day contemporary design.
