La Grande Muraglia 2023 embodies a unique and timeless design inspired by great architectural feats, defying the passage of time. Conceived by Mario Bellini in 1981, this masterpiece is the result of a partnership with Piero Ambrogio Busnelli. Today, at NEUTRA’s atelier, Emanuele Chicco Busnelli skillfully brings the project to life, interpreting its domestic architecture flair. The collection features two- or three-seat sofas and an armchair, showcasing a classic Roman travertine frame (also available in other marble options). The structure harmoniously integrates enveloping upholstery on seats, armrests, and backrests. The pillars and architrave of an imaginary monumental building inspire the uprights and frame, creating a dialectical contrast with the soft, embracing elements of the seats. Despite its strong architectural reference, comfort and flexibility remain uncompromised. Mario Bellini reinterprets La Grande Muraglia’s sculptural forms, offering modern seating experiences for reading, resting, or meditating. These seats are more than furniture; they are sculptural pieces designed to be handed down through generations. According to Bellini, they ‘impose themselves with prestige, not authority, epitomizing Italian design excellence and contemporary style.
