Elies Resort in Sifnos island
This relatively new 5 star hotel complex is one of the best in the new generation of luxurious holiday destinations in the Cyclades. Located in Vathi, Sifnos, a small traditional settlement on the south-west coast of the island, the resort extends from the settlement non-intrusively, its clean architectural lines blending perfectly with the idyllic Cycladic beauty of the place. The resort extends from the beach to a 50 stremma olive grove from which it takes its name.
The low-level complex is comprised of 10 bungalows, each with a private pool, 6 independent apartments and two small groups of 18 luxury suites, all supported by a reception, restaurant, and spa. An impressively large swimming pool plays an important role as a central meeting place of the resort.
The internal areas are designed to respect the aesthetics of the environment, the basic elements of white walls and pale wooden floors together with the addition of carefully selected furnishings and decorative items, which have been chosen to demonstrate the skills of local craftsmen. In some way, a table from Maxalto works alongside traditional ceramics, lights by Phillipe Starck co-exist with paraffin lamps and stark white fabric ties in with the basketwork of an island chair.
The Elies resort is an example of the trend in luxurious holiday destinations and since its inauguration in 2004 it has grown in popularity and remains an example of contemporary Greek architecture and interior design. The Architectural Workshop of A. Kostikas, A Tzivelos OE and D. Nikolaou were responsible for the architecture of Elies and the interior design was by Stage Design Office of S. Papagianni, G. Kyriazi and associates.
