The elegant and unassuming spaces are never the easy outcome of fruitless reveries and general daydreaming. On the contrary, they are the result of continuous observation and constant practice in the art of aesthetics, so the become the mirror of their creator, showcasing his method and his selectivity. This particular residence comprises the last two floors of a small apartment building, by the firm I.S.V. With its trademark “clarity”, it is a place where refined taste is evident, revealing the manner and designing preference of its creator-in this case the owner, who, tapping into her long professional experience in the sector of furniture and decoration, undertook the task of decorating and furnishing the apartment herself, taking into consideration the specific needs of her four-member family. Step by step, she began with the wainscoting of the empty and undefined spaces, opting for oak floors and stark white walls as the ideal backdrop for her later interventions.
On the receptive canvas, she made her next, bold move, choosing black as the main color in the furniture elements. So, the simple, modern lines and forms of contemporary design, “invested” in the particular luxury of black, make their appearance in all the rooms, sometimes as dining or coffee tables, as sofa or armchairs, storage units or pioneering designs, as in the case of the dining chairs, signed by German designer Konstantin Grcic. While the stainless steel-in the kitchen-and the white of certain elements and the children’s rooms, act completely in this subtly and discreetly stylized space. There is one piece of furniture however, that constitutes the epitome the epitome of modern spirit-the chair La Chaise (1948) by the pair Eames –that follows with its symbolic presence the owner when-ever she moves into a new home.
