Metropolitan apartment

Details

In this Athenian apartment, in the center of the city of Athens, where the Greek eclecticism, combining classical, deco and contemporary elements, dictated the aesthetical direction for its recent renovation. First, to the owner and her amateur passion for decoration and then to the professional touch of Stavros Papayiannis-from the designing firm StageDesignOffice- who lent it a contemporary identity and a metropolitan style.

The harmonious collaboration between the owner and the expert was primarily based on the subtle presence of color, subdued white, black and the deep brown of the wood, the substance of stainless metal and the discreet presence of purple and blue touches. On a background of white carpets, curtains and furniture upholstery, a series of unique pieces gave the final, metropolitan look…Among these, the golden wallpaper, a console made of glass and metal, the sober dining room and office, the scattered lights by Ingo Maurer, the black paper vase and the two distinctive Wiggle chairs, made of paper, by the famous architect Frank Ghery.

Finally, a collection of artwork accentuated even more the cosmopolitan air of the apartment. Paintings by Akrithakis, Tsarouhis, Apostolou and Bokoros co-exist with Nikos Kassanlis’ “Melina”-prominent in the dinning area-and four unexpected photographs by the Japanese Nobuyoshi Araki. Photographs chosen by Papayannis as a bold, symbolic final touch in the completion of this space, ideal for the life of its owners, fluctuating between their personal and social agenda, in the new “metropolitan” city of Athens.
