Vitra introduces the Bascule Highback Lounge Chair, a contemporary interpretation of the lounge chair that brings together refined aesthetics, ergonomic thinking and an intuitive approach to movement. Designed by Studio Œ, the chair explores the relationship between the human body and the object, placing comfort and flexibility at the heart of its design.

With its generous proportions and distinctive high backrest, the Bascule Highback creates an enveloping sense of privacy and relaxation. Its carefully tailored upholstery gives the chair a sophisticated yet relaxed character, while the adjustable neck cushion provides additional support and comfort.

At the core of the design is an integrated reclining mechanism that responds naturally to the user’s weight and movement. The chair can move smoothly from an upright position into a more relaxed reclining posture, allowing the user to adjust their position intuitively, without the need for complex controls.

The attention to detail extends to the construction and longevity of the chair. Its removable upholstery can be replaced over time, allowing the Bascule Highback to be renewed and adapted to changing interiors while supporting a more considered and durable approach to furniture design.

Available with different base options and finishes, the chair is designed to complement a wide range of contemporary interiors, from private residences to hospitality and work environments. Its sculptural presence allows it to function not only as a comfortable place to sit, but also as a distinctive statement piece within a space.

With the Bascule Highback, Vitra and Studio Πexplore how furniture can respond more naturally to the rhythms of the body. The result is a lounge chair where engineering remains discreet, movement becomes intuitive, and comfort is transformed into a defining element of the design.
